Kevin Cheng Ka Wing was borned on 15th. August 1969 in San Francisco, California, USA. He is a Hong Kong singer and television actor. He is currently an artist under the management of TVB. He rose to fame in late 2004 after his first lead role in Hard Fate as "Kent". He is best known for his role "Alan" in the 2006 TVB romance drama, Under the Canopy of Love, which also earned him a Best Lead Actor award at the 2006 TVB Anniversary Awards. This is how his Chinese name look like: 鄭嘉穎 (Traditional) 郑嘉颖 (Simplified) Biography Early Years Kevin was born in San Francisco, United States. He moved to Hong Kong at a very young age and spent most of his childhood days in Hong Kong. Cheng studied in Pun U Association Wah Yan Primary School, and later in Alhambra High School[citation needed] and Hong Kong International School, an English-speaking high school in Hong Kong. In between his schooling days, at around the age of 12, Cheng's mother sent him over to San Francisco to live with his uncle for two years. However, he later returned back to Hong Kong again when his mother changed her mind about migrating to United States. Cheng did not finish his high school in Hong Kong; he moved to Canada for the rest of his high school years. He later went to United States to pursue his college degree in CSULA[2] where he majored in Civil Engineering. However, due to the death of his father, he did not finish his degree and decided to move back to Hong Kong to start a singing career and to be with his mother. 1993–2005: Modest Beginnings When Kevin was 16 years old and still studying high school in Hong Kong, he participated in TVB New Talent singing contest. However, he dropped out mid-way because he was not ready for a singing career at that time. When he moved back to Hong Kong again in his early 20's after the death of his father, he decided to continue his pursuance of a singing career. Kevin signed a contract with the record label PolyGram in 1993 and released his debut album in the same year to mixed reviews. He was seen as a newcomer with good potential and managed to bag several Best New Artist awards in 1994. However, rumours soon started to arise about Cheng dating his labelmate, Linda Wong Hing Ping, thus causing conflicts between him and his manager, Dai See-Chung. Cheng's manager then changed gears and pushed him towards the Taiwan entertainment industry. Kevin moved to Taiwan and released several Mandarin albums and dramas there, all of which brought in only mediocre success for his career. Kevin was discovered by TVB after his role in the Taiwanese drama, The Legendary Twins, in which he portrayed the villain, Jiang Yu-Lang. He was subsequently brought back to Hong Kong and signed a management contract with TVB that following year. He started out with portraying small roles until the year 2004 when he was given a main role in Hard Fate. [edit] 2006–present: Breakthrough Success Kevin soared to popularity after his lead role in the well-received 2006 TVB romance drama Under the Canopy of Love, in which he starred alongside Niki Chow and Bosco Wong. His singing career also began to pick up again after the well-known Liu Jia-Chang composed a single for him, entitled "無可奈何". In the same year, he has also released a Cantonese compilations album and held his very first mini concert. Niki Chow, Raymond Lam and Miriam Yeung were among some of the guest-singers for his mini concert. In 2006, Kevin won his first award from TVB as Best Lead Actor for his role in Under the Canopy of Love. He was shocked and made an emotional speech saying, "My mom supported me through all the hardship for thirteen years. Tonight I can finally let her know that her son has made the right decision in staying in this industry. I would like to tell every struggling artists out there that as long as you persevere, dreams can come true." Kevin is highly praised by TVB executive, Virginia Lok and he is also a favoured actor of TVB producer, Amy Wong. Kevin's first critical breakthrough role was in the 2007 TVB crime drama The Ultimate Crime Fighter where he portrayed the villain "Aaren", earning him great reviews. In the 2008 TVB thriller/suspense drama Last One Standing, his portrayal of the ex-convict "Sing Hei" has earned him further critical acclaim and widespread praises from viewers. This role is currently seen as his best work to date. It has earned Kevin a spot in the Top 5 nomination list for the 2008 TVB Anniversary Best Lead Actor Award. Kevin lost the award to veteran actor Ha Yu, who was the hot favourite to win due the ratings-success of Moonlight Resonance. Personal Life Kevin Cheng began his career as a model and a singer, but later he was found having a high potential in acting. Then he became popular after acting in a couple of TVB series. Now he is one of the top actors in TVB. I love Kevin Cheng because he's very good in acting as what I wrote above. I'm gonna tell you that KEVIN CHENG REALLY ROCKS!!!
